Mount Uniacke Quarry Expansion – Ongoing Violations Ignored!

WHAT HAPPENED IN 2023:

Our community met with NSECC–EA and ICE representatives in 2023.

The evidence we presented halted the quarry expansion at that time.

But instead of holding Northumberland Capital Corporation Inc. (NCCI) accountable, NSECC allowed them to “come into compliance” — effectively sweeping serious violations under the rug.

THE FACTS:

NCCI and related companies illegally infilled a designated wetland (WL7) — a protected area they were explicitly told to avoid.

The infill contained construction and demolition waste imported from Halifax.

Within this illegally filled area, they built an unauthorized settling pond.

NSECC’s response? They amended the approved quarry area to include the illegal wetland infill, while ignoring the rest of the active, non-compliant areas.

2024 & 2025 IMAGES REVEAL THE TRUTH:

Satellite images show the extent of NCCI’s non-compliance.

All disturbed areas should have remained inside the original red box (the approved boundary).

They are far beyond it — and still expanding illegally.

Meanwhile, NSECC has done little to stop them.

OUR COMMUNITY STANDS ALONE IN DEFENSE OF THE ENVIRONMENT.

We are the only ones holding NCCI accountable, and our only avenue is through NSECC, who continue to ignore the evidence.

🛑 ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Demand that NSECC enforce the law.

Stop rewarding illegal actions with new approvals.

Protect Mount Uniacke’s wetlands — before they’re gone for good.
