Next deadline: September 21

Once again, it is September! Hopefully everyone enjoyed the weather this summer. Firefighters would like to remind community members about the two following items.

1. September 6 is the first day of school at UDS. Please take care driving in the community during bus and school hours, especially near the school. We all need to work together to ensure children can get to and from school safely. Remember the speed limit in the UDS school zone drops to
30 km/hr when children are present.

2. Fire Prevention Week is fast approaching. Quoted from "The latest statistics from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) show that if you have a reported fire in your home, you are more likely to die today than you were a few decades ago. This startling statistic is behind this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme: “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware - fire can happen anywhere”. Fire Prevention Week takes place October 7-13, 2018.

Through three simple calls-to-action, this year’s theme identifies basic, but essential, ways people can reduce their risk to fire and be prepared in the event of one:
**Look for places fire can start
**Listen for the sound of the smoke alarm
**Learn two ways out of each room.

In recognition of Fire Prevention week, our Annual Open House will be held on Tuesday, October 9 at 7:00pm at the Uniacke Fire Hall located at 654 Highway #1. All are welcome to the event. We will have demonstrations and fire prevention tips for everyone.

Call statistics for the summer months:
June (15) - 1 Brush Fire / 11 Medical Assistance / 2 Motor Vehicle Accidents / 1 Mutual Aid

July (18) - 1 Alarm / 1 Brush Fire / 11 Medical Assistance / 3 Motor Vehicle Accidents /

1 Other 1 Vehicle Fire

August as of Aug 24 (9) - 7 Medical Assistance / 2 Mutual Aid

To date, firefighters have volunteered 3,381 hours for the year including training, responding to calls, meetings and work parties. Please visit our website at or contact our hall at

Thank you.
