Uniacke Quarry Expansion - as of Aug 29, 2023 the application to expand the quarry from 4 hectares to a mammoth 40 hectares has been submitted to the N.S. Dept of Environment for approval. Minister Tim Halman will render his decision Oct 18, 2023.

What does this mean?

Should this expansion go ahead? The quarry lifespan (which was originally intended/scheduled to end in 2025), will now go forward for the next 30 – 50 years!

What can you do?

If you are against a virtual lifetime of industrial disease, environmental headaches as climate change worsens, a massive increase in large tandem truck traffic, the continued further deterioration of the one way in/one way out Uniacke Mines Road (and Highway # 1), a duplication of the massive Dexter quarry in Bedford and a lifetime of blasting/dust/noise/traffic congestion and safety issues in your pristine community, then we need everyone to NOT turn a blind eye, to NOT bury your head in the sand, to NOT accept this catastrophe in the making and to indeed make your voice heard.

NCC (Northumberland Capital Corp) has been toying with the residents of Cockscomb Lake and Mount Uniacke for years now. Good corporate citizens…..hardly. Forthcoming and open…….never. Sneaky and underhanded…..most definitely.

$$ is their bottom line. They care absolutely nothing about the residents or the community of Cockscomb Lake/Mount Uniacke. They come to take and they give nothing back in return. As their current 9 year track record speaks to. Do not expect them to change in any positive way for this community. It will only get worse as they blow up that hill to the right of Partridge Lane, Cockscomb Lake and the headwaters of the Sackville River.
