Danita Curwin was preparing to read this letter from her son John at the Ceremony held on June 9, 2018 at the dedication of the Mount Uniacke Picnic Park to honour Private John Curwin who lost his life in Afghanistan, but emotions were too strong for her to read the letter so she has asked that it be entered here for all to see. It was a very emotional dedication and this is a very emotional, but honest letter, of the closeness of John and his family and the dedication John had for his country and his community.

“Mom: I was hoping you wouldn’t have to read this, but in the event of my death, I wanted to leave ya’s a letter.

First, I just want to say I’m sorry for the pain you’re going through and you’re probably thinking “I told you so”. Ha Ha Just kidding, but you know me, I say I’m doing something and I just do it. So please don’t blame the army because it was my decision and I thank you for all your support even though I know you didn’t want me going. I also want to thank you for raising me the way you and dad did. I always hoped I would be a great parent as you guys are and I want to thank you for being there for Laurie and I, no matter what it was. I always knew I could call mom and dad. You and dad are the strongest people I know, so I know that, in time, you guys will be fine.
Just remember, I’ll always be alive in your hearts.
I love you Mom.

Love, your very proud son John”
