The stabilization project is complete. Our sincerest thanks to all those who made donations to this heritage project. 1st Century Movers of New Glasgow NS began this work August 22 by raising the building. Eventually, a concrete footing and foundation wall were installed, and sections of the 185 year old sill were replaced. The sills appear to be hand hewn hemlock beams, 8” x 9” with mortised, hand cut spruce beams laid lengthwise under the floor. The building was reset on the foundation September 8th. Some follow-up work remains to be done. Next year, the Trustee Association hopes to continue the work by restoring the front doors and entry area. Later, there will be an inspection of the roof and painting the exterior of the building. Once again, thanks to all for your support.
