Sign Updates – Cathy Samms

Sign Updates……
I’ve been meeting with some community members and our councilors to get plans together for some new park signs.
We’ve decided on a sign for the skate park renaming it after Edmond Chater. Much, maybe all, the work for this sign has been graciously donated by Paul and Laura McNeil. They have secured the people and the manpower to make this happen through many community donations. We are ready to move forward with this project…hopefully very soon!
We’ve also been working as a group of volunteers to fundraise so that we can give a proper tribute to Pte. John Curwin, killed in action in Afghanistan in 2008. John was a very strong supporter of his community and died while fighting so others could enjoy life as he had in Mt. Uniacke. We are now fundraising to procure a bronze plaque that will be situated in the playground that will be renamed “Mt Uniacke Memorial Community Playground”. Although we are working towards dedicating this to Pte. Curwin, there will be an opportunity for any community member to become involved in dedicating to their loved ones who have passed away. Drop into Eddy’s Variety to donate and get updates on the project. In addition to community fundraising, we are working with two Army Units to assist us in meeting our goals. Stay tuned for more specific fundraising events in the near future.
We have a bank account set up to receive donations. Any additional funds we hope to put towards some park benches in the park to sit and and remember.
